Services

The DC Human Rights Act requires that all cases are mediated. Mediation is an alternative dispute resolution (ADR) program implemented by OHR that typically occurs within 45 days after the acceptance of the complaint.

Our programs build the capacity of District agencies and government grantees to ensure equal access to services (Language Access Program), public safety (Creating Safer Spaces), healthy educational environments for youth (Bullying Prevention Program), EEO compliance and more.

You may file a complaint if you believe your rights have been violated under the laws enforced by OHR, including the Language Access Act, Fair Criminal Record Screening Acts, the DC Family and Medical Leave Act, the Universal Paid Leave Act, the DCHRA, and more..
As part of OHR’s compliance process, reviews complaints at intake, refers them to mediation, and if mediation is unsuccessful, conducts a full investigation before making a probable cause determination.

This program is a part of OHR’s compliance efforts, ensures that residents, workers, and visitors can access DC government information and services in their preferred language, supporting individuals who are limited or non-English proficient

OHR offers citywide training and outreach to inform residents, businesses, and organizations about their rights and responsibilities under the DCHRA. Through community events, presentations, and workshops, OHR promotes equal opportunity and inclusion across the District. Training are available by request.
