This month the Office of Human Rights published updated regulations for the District of Columbia Family and Medical Leave Act (DCFMLA) in the DC Register. The Act entitles District government employees and eligible employees of private employers up to 16 work weeks of medical leave and 16 work weeks of family leave for a qualifying event. The Act also provides employees some job protections when utilizing FMLA-designated leave. Although the revised regulations incorporate some of the language provided by the Department of Labor (DOL) in its FMLA regulations, it also provides additional guidance to District of Columbia government agencies. The OHR encourages comments from both DC government employees and the private sector. To learn more about DCFMLA, visit www.ohr.dc.gov.
