Wednesday, March 3, 2010
Office of Human Rights partners with DHCD and the Equal Rights Center to host 2010 Fair Housing Symposium.

The DC Office of Human Rights (OHR), the DC Department of Housing and Community Development (DHCD) and the Equal Rights Center (ERC) will host the District’s 9th Annual Fair Housing Symposium from 8:30 am to 4 pm on Tuesday, April 6, 2010.  The event will be held at the True Reformer Building at 1200 U Street, NW.

Held in celebration of National Fair Housing Month, this year’s theme is “Furthering Fair Housing: Pathway to Opportunity.” The symposium is an educational forum for public and private fair housing advocates, community-based organizations, residential rental professionals, residential lending professionals, fair housing advocates, government and non-government direct service providers and all those interested in learning more about Fair Housing.

John D. Trasviña, Assistant Secretary for Fair Housing and Equal Opportunity (HUD), will deliver the keynote speech. The Symposium will also include three panels: “To Further and Affirm: A Fair Housing Mandate,” a panel focused on the local perspective of affirmatively furthering fair housing; “Fair Housing Makes Good Mortgage, Lending, Real Estate Sense,” a panel focused on local initiatives and projects aimed at preventing predatory lending; and a presentation of fair housing concerns discussed in The Integration Debate: Competing Futures for American Cities.

The Symposium is free, open to the public and both breakfast and lunch will be provided.
