Commissioner Carmen Moreno Sanz
Ms. Carmen Moreno Sanz currently serves as a high school Spanish teacher at Winston Churchill High School. From a young age, she has been deeply concerned with the inequities and injustices that persist in society. This concern, rooted in her Humanist philosophy, has driven her academic pursuits, professional endeavors, and volunteer activities. As a Linguist, Ms. Moreno Sanz understands the power of language in shaping perceptions and narratives surrounding human rights issues, and she is committed to using her linguistic skills to amplify marginalized voices and advocate for social justice.
Her experience as an educator has further reinforced her dedication to fostering empathy, understanding, and respect for diversity among students and community members alike. She firmly believes that education plays a crucial role in promoting human rights awareness and empowering individuals to become agents of change in their communities.
Through her work as a Human Rights advocate, Ms. Moreno Sanz has gained firsthand experience in addressing discrimination, inequality, and injustice in various contexts. Whether advocating for refugee rights, promoting gender equality, or fighting against racial discrimination, she has consistently sought opportunities to make a meaningful difference in the lives of others.
Whether through conducting research, organizing events, or assisting with outreach efforts, Ms. Moreno Sanz is committed to supporting the Commission's initiatives and amplifying the voices of those whose rights may be overlooked or violated.
A Ward 2 resident, Ms. Moreno Sanz earned her Bachelor of Arts in Plastic Arts & Art Sciences, and her Master of Arts in Language Arts Education from the Universidad Complutense in Madrid.
