The Creating Safer Spaces of the Office of Human Rights (OHR) provides education, raises awareness through outreach interventions, and enforces compliance. This is achieved through two main efforts:
- Sexual Harassment Prevention:
-
OHR trains and certifies trainers to facilitate the sexual harassment prevention course. A list of certified trainers can be found here: [add link].
-
Under the Tipped Wage Workers Fairness Amendment Act of 2018, DC businesses that pay at least one tipped employee less than the minimum wage of $18.40 an hour and rely on tips to reach that amount must:
-
Provide sexual harassment prevention training and submit a training compliance report within 30 business days after the training.
-
Annually submit their sexual harassment policy and certifications through OHR’s Business Self Service Form by May 31, 2026.

- Care For Seniors:
-
The Care for LGBTQ Seniors and Seniors with HIV Amendment Act of 2020 was created because of community outreach and a need for LGBTQ seniors and seniors with HIV in long-term care facilities rights and legal protections.
-
The Act protects residents of care facilities from discrimination and requires staff of long-term care facilities to undergo training on preventing discrimination based on sexual orientation or gender identity or expression when caring for LGBTQ residents and residents with HIV.
