Creating Safer Spaces Unit

a pair of hands holding a heart shape containing two simplified human figures representing the Care for LGBTQ Seniors and Seniors with HIV, and a circular icon featuring a dollar bill and a receipt representing the Tipped Wage Worker Amendment Act.

The Creating Safer Spaces of the Office of Human Rights (OHR) provides education, raises awareness through outreach interventions, and enforces compliance. This is achieved through two main efforts:

  1. Sexual Harassment Prevention:
  2. Care For Seniors:
    • The Care for LGBTQ Seniors and Seniors with HIV Amendment Act of 2020 was created because of community outreach and a need for LGBTQ seniors and seniors with HIV in long-term care facilities rights and legal protections.

    • The Act protects residents of care facilities from discrimination and requires staff of long-term care facilities to undergo training on preventing discrimination based on sexual orientation or gender identity or expression when caring for LGBTQ residents and residents with HIV.

    • To learn more about the law and its requirements, please click here.

Whether you're an employer, an employee, or involved in long-term care services, OHR is here to support you.  If you need more information on compliance after visiting the pages above, each page includes contact information for reaching us. —we’re always ready to help. Together, let's build safer, more inclusive spaces!
