Lucy moved from Mexico in 1982, hoping to find better opportunities for herself and provide her future children with a good education. When she first immigrated to the US, she worked in Texas cleaning rooms for a hotel, but dreamed of taking care of children. When she moved to DC, she received a job offer to work at a daycare, and felt that she had finally achieved her dream. While working at the daycare, she took classes to improve her skills so she could be a nanny. Today, she is a proud nanny and even prouder mother of her two children, Perla and Carlos. Carlos has helped Lucy achieve her goal of providing her children with a bright future. He attends a high school that has given him a scholarship for his outstanding academic performance and is excited to start applying to colleges soon. When he is not studying, he loves to run, swim, volunteer in the community and go to the Smithsonian’s National Air and Space Museum.
