Office of Human Rights Seeks Certified Mediators

Tuesday, March 2, 2010
OHR ia seeking mediators for its Mediation Division.

The Office of Human Rights (OHR) today announced a call for Certified Mediators for its highly successful mediation division. The DC Office on Human Rights is an agency of the District of Columbia government that seeks to eradicate discrimination, increase equal opportunity, and protect human rights in the city. The Office enforces the DC Human Rights Act of 1977 and other laws and policies on nondiscrimination.

The DC Human Rights Act of 1977 as amended requires a mandatory mediation of discrimination complaints before the OHR commences a full investigation. Mediation is an alternative dispute resolution (ADR) program implemented by OHR. OHR’s Mediation Division is highly successful and accomplished a settlement rate of 48% in FY09.

This is a great opportunity for experienced certified mediators to work in a dynamic environment, helping to support the important mission of the Office of Human Rights.  This is a paid opportunity and compensation will be commensurate with experience.  Minimum requirements for Mediators include the following:

  • Minimum of four years experience and thorough knowledge of ADR or a comparable process requiring dispute resolution;
  • Completion of an approved 40-hour mediation training course and Mediation certification required;
