New Date: Attend the Predatory Mortgage Lending Seminar on November 4

Friday, October 6, 2006
Learn from experts how to avoid a predatory loan when purchasing a home.

The DC Office of Human Rights (OHR) hosts a free homebuyers seminar on November 4, 2006. [Please note: the Sept 26 event was postponed to this date.] Experts will tell you how to avoid a predatory loan when purchasing a home and what to do if you suspect you have received a predatory loan. Space is limited, so please register at (202) 645-5630.

A predatory loan is an unsuitable loan designed to exploit vulnerable and unsophisticated borrowers.   A predatory loan may have one or more of the following features:

  • Charges more in interest and fees than is required to cover the added risk of lending to borrowers with credit imperfections
  • Contains abusive terms and conditions that trap borrowers and lead to increased indebtedness
  • Does not take into account the borrower’s ability to repay the loan successfully
  • Often violates fair lending laws by targeting women, minorities, and communities of color
