WHAT/WHO: 

The DC Office of Human Rights (OHR) will participate in a Twitter Town Hall on National Safe Schools Day to highlight students, teachers, schools and communities in building inclusive and safe schools in the District and nationwide. Twitter-users can ask questions about DC and federal initiatives on bullying prevention using the #BullyFreeDC hashtag. OHR is participating in the Town Hall with Federal Partners at StopBullying.gov; Gay, Lesbian, Straight Education Network (GLSEN); The Trevor Project; PACER’s National Bullying Prevention Center; and Safe Schools Action Network.

BACKGROUND:

OHR leads Mayor Vincent C. Gray’s Youth Bullying Prevention Task Force, which is charged with developing a District-wide model anti-bullying policy for use by District agencies. The Task Force – created under the Youth Bullying Prevention Act of 2012 – is comprised of District government agencies, advocates, direct service providers, school administrators, teachers, parents and youth.
