The Commission on Asian and Pacific Islander Affairs of the District of Columbia (CAPIA) seeks your help. As May is Asian American and Pacific Islander American Heritage Month, and as this year marks the 10th year anniversary of the passage of the Language Access Act, the Commission would like to recognize those unsung heroes who have demonstrated extraordinary dedication to the limited English proficient (LEP) and/or non-English proficient (NEP) Asian American and Pacific islander (AAPI) residents and/or merchants of the District of Columbia.
The Commission invites you to nominate individuals or government employees who have made or are currently making significant contributions to the LEP/NEP AAPI community.
Having contributed to the passage of Language Access Act of 2004
Promoting awareness of the District’s AAPI LEP/NEP issues
Providing direct services to the District’s LEP/NEP AAPIs
Organizing projects that strive for the advancement of LEP/NEP AAPI residents and/or merchants in the District
While the government employees or individuals need not live in DC, their work must focus on the District's LEP/NEP AAPI community.
The Mayor's Community Service Awards will be presented by Mayor Vincent C. Gray at the Asian American and Pacific Islander American Heritage Month Celebration in May.
