Franconia Sculpture Park - 2014 Hot Metal Residency
Franconia Sculpture Park is now accepting applications for our 2014 Hot Metal Residency!
Located on 25-acres in the scenic St. Croix River Valley, 45 miles northeast of Minneapolis/St. Paul, MN, USA, Franconia offers opportunities for artists to live, create, and exhibit three dimensional artwork. The Hot Metal Residency offers artists and interns the opportunity to experiment with pattern-making and mold-making, exchange ideas and techniques, and exhibit finished work in a highly visible public park.
Franconia transforms the outdoor studio into a temporary foundry for two-weeks during the summer and through a collaborative effort, the Hot Metal Residency culminates in a pour with two furnaces melting approximately 8,000lbs of iron. Artists and interns are invited to include finished artwork in Franconia’s 2014 cast metal exhibition.
The 2014 Hot Metal Residency runs from July 20 to August 5. The fee for the residency is $300 which includes up to 2,000lbs of sand and 300lbs of iron. In a work-exchange agreement, the fee for interns is waived.
