DC Speaks Your Language: Bilingual Volunteer

Thank you for your interest in serving as a volunteer bilingual facilitator, note-taker or language ambassador for “DC Government Speaks Your Language,” a citywide dialogue on Language Access and multilingual resource fair to be held on Saturday, June 21st as part of the District’s ongoing commemoration of the 10-year anniversary of the Language Access Act of 2004.

Below there are several ways you can make an important impact on the event as a bilingual volunteer! Register now!

BILINGUAL  FACILITATOR
[During Community Dialogue - Time Commitment: 10am - 1:30pm]
[10am Registration/Briefing | 11am - 12:30pm - Small Group Discussion | 12:30-1:30pm Report Out & Lunch]

As a bilingual facilitator, you will host a highly participatory small group discussion in a language (other than English) that you are fully proficient in using a detailed discussion guide. The ideal facilitator will have prior facilitation experience, familiarity with the DC Language Access Act, and full proficiency in a language commonly or likely to be spoken by Limited/Non English proficient communities in DC (ex. Spanish, Amharic, Mandarin, Cantonese, French, Korean, Vietnamese, Tagalog, Portuguese, Tigrigna, German, Kru, Italian, Russian, etc... )

BILINGUAL NOTE-TAKER
[During Community Dialogue - Time Commitment: 10am - 1:30pm]
[10am Registration/Briefing | 11am - 12:30pm - Small Group Discussion | 12:30-1:30pm Report Out & Lunch]

As a bilingual note-taker, you will support the small group discussion by documenting the dialogue and capturing the key themes, highlights and priorities and organizing them for the report out using a detailed guide. The ideal note-taker will be comfortable with organizing ideas and summarizing them in real time, able to record notes in a succinct and speedy manner (on paper or electronically) and fully proficient in a language commonly or likely to be spoken by Limited/Non-English proficient communities in DC.

LANGUAGE AMBASSADOR
[During Resource Fair - Time Commitment: 1:30pm - 4:00pm]

As a language ambassador, you will welcome Limited/Non-English proficient residents in their language and help them navigate the different tables, services, and activities available at the fair. The ideal language ambassador will be a natural weaver and connector, friendly, and fully proficient in a language commonly or likely to be spoken by Limited/Non-English proficient DC residents.
